A Beautiful Story

While catching-up on all the blogs I read I saw on one of my family member's a link to a beautiful birth story. So of course I had to check it out! It was truly inspiring and so, of course, I had to share it with my readers. Thanks to Renee for bringing it to my attention by putting it on her blog. I must warn you before you read to grab some Kleenexes!

Enjoy!
While trying to get a picture of the girls for their birthday invites this is what I got.....

Needless to say I went with individual photos that I already had. I will admit that since the invites are for grandparents and our siblings, a very small audience, I contemplated using this because it was a little funny:) Oh'well that's what I get for trying to do it late on a Sunday afternoon.

Insert sigh here...

See this adorable little girl here below.....
Brad and I took her to register yesterday for Kindergarten. It was so surreal!! I look at this picture, taken for her first birthday, and it seems like she was just one year old. Even in spite of all of her current photos surrounding me and her every day actions that remind me that she is rapidly growing-up, I still can't believe it.

She is so super excited and honestly, I am too. She is very inquisitive and loves learning! I held myself together pretty well. I got a little teary eyed when they had all the kids line up to go into the Kindergarten room with the teacher, Mrs. Lancaster, to fun activities while the parents got to fill out paperwork. At one point Mrs. Lancaster came back to talk with us and again I got a little teary eyed. I have 5 mos to get it together and get prepared. The first day will be OK, as it's only an hour and we stay with her, the second day however will be when she marches into that school all on her own, for the whole day. I'm grateful her teacher has been a teacher for many years and a Kindergarten teacher at Towanda for 15 years. Not only for Kaylee because she'll know how to help me too :) The Mom, visualising this little girl in the photo above, walking into her new school!

What is Kaylee most excited about? Not quite sure, she rattled a list of things that she thought was great, but something she was quite impressed with....a separate room for eating lunch!

(Disclaimer: To all my readers this will be the first of many posts talking about my mixed emotions over this new chapter in our lives...but I'm the Mom so deal with it :))

"Eye" Can See Clearly Now!

Next week Kaylee will be getting registered for Kindergarten! UGH!! I can't believe this is going to be happening. Part of this great adventure is many doctor appointments. As many of you know children are mandated to have all of their doctor visits current by the first day of school or they can't start. So the first appointment out of the three: Eye Doctor, Dentist, Pediatrician, was the eye doctor. I made our appointment together as Kaylee can be a little apprehensive at doctor appointments and this was going to be a whole new experience. I had told her over the weekend what we would be doing on that Monday. She became a little nervous and I explained this was the easiest doctor to go to. She had a pre-school screening last year and they did a couple tests at her well visit last year. She passed the screening, however at her well visit one of her eyes didn't do as well as the other, but Dr. Rosa wasn't overly concerned as she knew she would be going to the eye doctor within the next year.

Monday came and she was starting to sound excited about it. She told Ainsley in the car that morning "Daddy will be picking you up today and going to Jump Spot, I will not be at Jump Spot because Mommy will be picking me up early and going to the eye doctor, ok?" To which Ainsley replied, very whatever like and said "OK".

We got to the eye doctor and she did FABULOUS, not one freak out, she did everything they asked her to do and was great. (I had told her previously that if she did a good job we could stop and get a treat on the way home.)

The doctor, whom I really like, she has a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old, found that Kaylee has an astigmatism in one of her eyes, just like her Mommy! Her vision was running about a 20/30, which isn't that bad. We didn't get to the "reading" distance test and she ran several different tests for far away to get some consistent numbers, because although Kaylee recognizes letters some of the tests can be confusing and after awhile I think she was just getting tired. We all know how it goes "Is it better 1 or 2", "top or bottom"? The eye doctor said she would need a prescription, she will wear the glasses for a month and we go back next month for a follow-up to see if the prescription needs to be tweaked at all. She was very excited about getting glasses.

She picked out some pink, Disney Princess, glasses. We picked them up yesterday. Brad felt bad that she had to get them, but with as bad of eye sight as he and I have I think this was not surprising for me. In fact the eye doctor said since I have an astigmatism and Kaylee does, Ainsley probably will too.
I'm glad that we got this taken care of. When I was a kid I didn't get glasses until mid-grade school. I finally was taken to the eye doctor because I was having issues in school and low and behold had to get glasses. So I would rather get started correcting it now, rather than waiting to see if it corrects itself and it ends up getting worse. Today is her first day wearing them at school. I'm so proud of her and how well she has done with this! I'm hoping our dentist appointment next month goes as smooth....but I won't hold my breath!
Anyway, here's the big girl in her glasses. Really makes her look like a "girl", not so much a little one anymore :(

P.S. After the appointment we went to Walgreens (it was the closest store) to pick out a "treat" for a job well done. Kaylee originally asked if she could get 2 so she could pick one for her and one for Ainsley. I complimented her on how nice that idea was and agreed. She spied a Disney Princess Tea-set. We opted to just get that as she said it could be for her and Ainsley's tea parties. They have really been into playing tea party lately with their friend Audrey (she's imaginary). Such a sweetie!

A day with Grandma Ginnny

A couple weeks ago we went over to my in-laws for the day. The girls will generally ask at some point in the week if we will be going to any of the grandparent's house over the weekend (they go through them individually, they will ask about one and then I will say "no" so then they go to the next grandparent and so on). Brad's mom decided we would make a Pineapple Upside Down cake this day, as the girls love to help in the kitchen. So here is how it went:

First you get the mix in the bowl.

Add some water, oil and eggs.

Take turns mixing it up, this is their second favorite thing to do. The first is cracking the eggs!

Of course you must taste your batter!

So you now might be asking "What do you do while it's baking?" The answer....play with shaving cream of course!

Grandma Ginny sprayed the shaving cream all over the table.

Although Ainsley first put a big scoop in her mouth as she thought it was whipped-cream, she soon learned that was not the case. So if you can't eat it then you should put it on your face like Daddy.

A little more for good measure!

Kaylee got some on her face too, but was more excited about writing in it on the table.
Poor Abby even got some on her face! Such a good dog, just laid there.

All in all it was a great day! The girls had so much fun!! I sent Brad a picture text during the shaving cream festivities, as he and his dad were finishing up things in our laundry room. His response to my picture text was "Glad it's you and not me." HEHE!!
